Fabulosity, According To Kimora Lee Simmons
Fabulosity (n) 1. a state of everything that is fabulous. 2. a quality ascribed to that which expresses glamour, style, charisma, power, and heart. This is how Kimora Lee Simmons defines the word she lives by. In her book Fabulosity: What It Is and How To Get It, Kimora tells the story of how she evolved from a skinny, mixed-raced, 6-foot adolescent in middle America, to a world-travelled, high-fahsion model, designer, and entrepreneur.
I read this book over a month ago and promised to post a review "soon." Better late than never, I suppose. I needed some time to figure out what I really think about it. So, what do I think? Kimora is ab-fab. Love her. The book? Nothing new.
Kimora details 16 laws to abide by for getting and keeping fabulosity, which she divides among six topics: self-belief and confidence, work and power, independence, image and body, romance and lifestyle, and positivity and sustainability. In romance and lifestyle she gives all the details of her courtship and subsequent marriage to hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, giving advice on how to stay happily married. I wonder how she feels about that chapter, now that she and Simmons have split?
The best thing about this book, in my opinion, are all the inspirational quotes by famous people. Kimora has placed them at the end of every chapter, from people like Roseanne ("The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it."), Mae West ("It's better to be looked over than overlooked."), Cindy Crawford ("Even I don't wake up looking like me."), Lil' Kim ("I'm just tryin' to be me/doin' what I do/so why y'all keep hatin' on me and my crew?") and, so many other people who have worked their way to success. Read this book, if for no other reason, than to get inspired by them!
Buzzing off for now...

Who's gonna use this phrase? The gays will reject this in a minute.
And "fierce" is the new "fabulous."
