Envirosax: Eco-Friendly Shopping Bags With Style

I'm so tired of all those plastic shopping bags I have to carry when I leave a market these days. They're so uncomfortable to carry and that little piece of plastic that comes off their handles, (which seams magnetized) is so annoying! Of course, it's not nearly as annoying as what plastic shopping bags do to the environment.

Over the years there have been re-usable shopping bags, but they haven't been very fashionable. Now there's a company based in Australia who is marrying fashion and eco-friendliness: Envirosax.


Envirosax was represented at the press preview I attended, at which I met the Hello! Lucky sisters. In fact, all company samples were presented to each attendee in the bag on the left, from Envirosax's graphic series. The bag is made of polyester, is hand-washable and is as strong as two plastic shopping bags. Bags in the graphic series are $7.95 each or $35.00 for a pouch of five. There's also the organic series, made of bamboo, linen, or hemp (pictured below), available for $24.95 each.

I had several stops to make after I'd attended the press preview and the bag held up very well. Though you can't tell from the photos, the bag can be worn on most shoulders. (It has a shoulder drop of about 9".) It's dimensions are 19.5" X 16.5". When I got home that day I also discovered that it can be rolled up to about 4" X 1.5" and snapped closed like an umbrella. That way, it can be kept in your purse or glove compartment and used whenever you need it. I'll definitely be ordering some soon.
