The Buzz Is Dying Down

It's been pretty quiet here at The Glamorous Bee this Summer, but things should be picking up again very soon. Expect to see reviews of several beauty products in the coming weeks and, hopefully, some coverage of Fashion Week.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream

I know the Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins line has been around for awhile, but I've never tried any of the products. Many months ago I received the Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream at an event, but never used it. It was just sitting in my bathroom cabinet. So one day I ran out of face cream and decided, finally, to give this a try. I'm always wary when it comes to face creams because I have oily skin, and something that isn't too thick and heavy is ideal for me.

I honestly had to get used to the smell (it's a little medicinal, but I guess that's a good thing), but once I got over that, it wowed me. It spreads on pretty thin and doesn't make my face oily at all. I began to use it every night before bed and it has worked wonders for my skin. My skin is clearer, and I didn't break out from using this because this is designed to make skin less sensitive and "build up its defenses." I make sure I only use a little bit so this could last me for a long time.

Alex Wang and Vena Cava for the Gap

Following the high-end-designer-teaming-up-with-a-mass-consumer-brand trend, Alexander Wang and Vena Cava have just released their respective lines for the Gap. Both are part of Gap's khaki collection and consist of pants, jackets, shorts, and dresses, all obviously in khaki. I am not a huge khaki fan, but the fantastic pleating on Wang's cropped pants and the skyscraper, ikat-ish print on Vena Cava's shift dress made me reconsider. Prices are under $100, a steal for these chic pieces!

For those of you who, like me, make a beeline to the fourth floor of Barney's (hello, salon shoes), and then leave, take a gander to the second floor to check out YSL's new vintage line. Stefano Pilati took vintage Yves Saint Laurent fabrics and created a new, ultrachic, sustainable collection. The 50-piece collection contains pieces that are one- or two- of a kind and range from strapless sheaths to ombre, eyelet-patterned jeans. In Pilati's words, the collection "fuses fashion and intelligence." My favorite is the khaki sheath, a timeless buy. The items range from $495 to $4,100.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Bath Powder

It’s important for me from time to time to soak in a bath. What a great way for me to de-stress and relax muscles that became tense from life. I usually pour Epsom salt to take me to nirvana, but then I stumbled upon something that takes me even further. Someone gave me Fresh Umbrian Clay Bath Powder a couple of weeks ago. When you pour the powder (which is made of White Clay, from the Umbria region of Italy) into the water, it's supposed to transform into a mud bath, which draws out toxins and impurities, while regenerating the skin.

I was skeptical; I felt that the Epsom Salt did that already, big deal. After about five minutes of soaking, I didn’t feel a difference—that was until I lifted my feet out of the water. I always do that, but this time it was unusual. My feet felt very heavy, as if the water was pulling my leg back in. I never had that sensation before with Epsom salt. I started thinking, “Maybe this Umbrian Clay does pull out impurities, because I’m definitely feeling a pull.”

I kept testing this “pulling effect” with both legs, and then just gave into the feeling and relaxed. After I finished, I felt lifted and light. I slept so well that night. I told my friend about my “pulling experience” and she said that many people describe that feeling when they take mud baths. I was very impressed with the Fresh Umbrian Clay Bath Powder, I’d definitely give it a try again.

Lacroix Files for Bankruptcy

For those of you who don't follow the daily fashion gossips and thus may not have heard, as of two days ago, chez Lacroix has officially filed for bankruptcy. The house is known for its fantastic, theatrical dresses that may look more Moulin Rouge than Madison Avenue. While reading about this downturn, I was shocked to find out that the house has never made a profit! Unlike many other labels (Dior, Prada, etc.), Christian Lacroix has never had a huge perfume hit, nor has it made the big bucks by selling overpriced luxury accessories. Sales of the women's summer collection are down 35% this year, and last year the company lost $15 million. The company has been looking for investors, so here's hoping someone with some deep pockets takes an interest.

St. Ives Smoothing In-Shower Exfoliating Body Polish

I love the St. Ives facial scrubs and was happy to see they also have body scrubs. Truth be told, many years ago I used the facial scrub on my body too! I've been using the St. Ives Smoothing In-Shower Exfoliating Body Polish for the past month now and it's the best. The scrub dissolves easily and makes my skin super soft. It leaves my skin with a nice smell, which is an added bonus.

A lot of times people focus on just exfoliating the face and feet, but it's a good idea to exfoliate the body too. I always think my arms and my hands are soft, but once I finish exfoliating, I realize that it's possible to have my skin even smoother. Besides, sunscreen and other products can work better once the dead skin cells are gone!

Halle by Halle Berry

I received a sample of Halle by Halle Berry shortly before its official launch in March and I'm really enjoying it. I’m a bit surprised that it doesn’t have a lot of buzz around it (at least to me), because it smells really good and it’s inexpensive. The fragrance is described as “a modern and sensuous woody oriental,” but it’s not overbearing. The scent is light and fresh, but packs enough punch.

I believe the fragrance costs no more than $25. I was looking around the website and if you sign up to be on the mailing list, they’ll send a free sample, if they still have samples available.

Up and Coming Designer: Frank Tell

As the between- season lull hits, I've started to look for up and coming designers for wardrobe inspiration. Right now I am loving Frank Tell, a Spanish import who had stints at fashion companies ThreeAsFour and Sue Stemp before starting his own eponymous line in 2007. His spring '09 collection, which was inspired by Penelope Tree, is full of ladylike dresses that are so perfect for a summer cocktail party. Dresses with visible bralette details are a great update on the classic Dolce & Gabbana corset style. His designs retail for around $1300 at Bloomingdales and Henri Bendel, but I think they might be worth the splurge.

Foot Works Thermal Exfoliating Scrub

I love the Avon Foot Works products because they make your feet feel and look their best, especially since we soon will be exposing our feet! I tried the Foot Works Thermal Exfoliating Scrub last week and it felt so good! The added bonus is that the scrub instantly warms up when it touches the skin.

I was on my feet all day, and having that kind of at-home pedicure was great. My feet were smoother and the scrub didn't feel harsh on my skin at all. I love how inexpensive this stuff is too. The scrub is a quick way to fix up your feet. Give it a try.

Degree Fine Fragrance

I went to the Degree Blogger Event at Dylan’s Candy Bar here in NYC, where they showcased the new Degree Women Fine Fragrance Collection. Yes, Degree has launched a line of body mists—Delicious Bliss (pictured at the top), Sexy Intrigue and Classic Romance.

There were 3 stations that symbolized the body mists. A flower station, where we could handpick a batch of flowers to take home, was for Classic Romance; a chocolate fondue fountain represented Delicious Bliss, and a cocktail station represented Sexy Intrigue. Of course my favorite was the chocolate station! I just couldn’t get enough of it.

The scents are light and aren’t that bad. I think they’re best to use if you’re in a hurry and want to smell nice for no particular reason. They’re inexpensive too, no more than $4.00 each. I didn’t even know they were in-store already.

Lindsay Price, the actress from Lipstick Jungle partnered with Degree and was also at the event. She was really nice and took the time to speak to and take pictures with some of the bloggers. At the end of the event, they gave us canisters to fill up with candy! I went crazy with all the assortment of goodies. I felt like a kid again.

Alice + Olivia for Payless

You may be thinking, "Since when are Payless shoes cute?" The answer is: Since this week. Fashion maven Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia has lent her talents to a line of low-cost shoes for Payless. Although Bendet is known for her denim designs, if this collection is any indication, she may have a future in footwear. Although several designs, such as pink leopard print chunky sandals, fail to impress, others hit the mark. I bought the black heeled gladiators, and the polka-dot sandal is so cute for the right girl. All of the shoes retail for around $40. Shop happy!

Marimekko for AVON Eyeshadow

Marimekko for AVON Eyeshadow has eye-popping colors that make applying eyeshadow fun. There are two compacts to choose from-Poppy Bouquet and Poppy Bloom. I have Poppy Bouquet and I love it.

I use the pink shade in this compact most frequently. It really brings out my eyes and my outfits; I always get a lot of compliments when I wear it. The silver color is great too, but pink is definitely my favorite.

Blue is my favorite color, but for some reason I didn't like how that shade looked on me, I guess I have to get used to it. I think it’s a little too bold, but that could just be me being picky. I’ll take it slow with this one. The only downside to using this eyeshadow is that it may be tough to use the neutral color, since it’s in the eye of the flower and the circle is tiny.

Bioré Skin Preservation

The new Bioré Skin Preservation line launched last week, for women from 25-35 years old with “in-between” skin. I am in that stage too, where I've graduated from using acne products as a teen, but am not yet ready for anti-aging products.

Bioré Skin Preservation “speaks to the 21 million mid 20s-mid 30s women who feel forgotten,” explained an expert at the Bioré launch event. They also explained that the top 3 skin concerns from these women are lack of radiance, uneven texture and uneven skin tone.

It was kind of scary to find out that by the age of 25, skin shows signs of change, and that stress and the environment greatly affect it too. Also, the function of the skin barrier lowers, which means a lower moisture level. These products have Ceramide, vitamin E and antioxidants to keep the skin’s moisture level in tact and better cellular turnover.

The line contains 5 products and my fave is the Even Smoother Microderm Exfoliator. I already thought my skin was smooth until I used it. Boy I felt a BIG difference. This was the smoothest my skin has ever been.

Chic and Cheap Summer Shoes

A dwindling bank account and a depreciated stock portfolio have turned this fashionista into a recessionista. I've been spending my after-work hours (and, to be honest, quite a few of my during-work hours) searching for great summer deals. One new line that I highly recommend is Kelsi Dagger, from the designer of Pour la Victoire. David Giordano, the designer for both lines, modeled many of the Kelsi Dagger styles after the more expensive ones of Pour la Victoire. The shoes retail for $100 for flats and $200 for boots and can be purchased on www.endless.com or at Nordstrom, The Shoe Box, or Kitson.
The punchy colors and oversize studs make these great on-trend buys for the summer!

Parisian skincare line Sothys has launched 2 new products in their Aroma Sothys Collection: Delicious Scrub and Energizing Shower Gel. The products contain 100% natural active ingredients and essential oils.

I was excited to try the Delicious Scrub. It’s made of spices, ginger, nutmeg, orange and mandarin essential oils. I couldn't wait to test it out on my skin. The scrub comes with a spatula to spread the product over dry or wet skin. I used the spatula for a few minutes, but I felt that, even though the instructions said to use the spatula, I felt more “in control” using my hands. I don’t mind getting them dirty! After scrubbing my my feet for a few minutes, my skin felt smooth and lightly scented.

Onto the Energizing Shower Ge: it has eucalyptus, nutmeg and essential oils. I didn’t feel “energized” as the name suggested (it takes me while to feel awake) but it lathered well and I liked the trail of sent it left on my skin.

Body Shop Pure Detox Clarifying Clay Mask

At the Women's Health 2nd Annual Beauty Spa Event, they unveiled their first-ever Beauty Flip Issue for April. In this April issue, they list beauty's next best products for 2009, the perfect skin diet and the 10 best products for your complexion.

One of the products I loved was the Body Shop Pure Detox Clarifying C lay Mask. What's unique about this mask is that it is wasabi-infused, which means it warms the skin. It warms up the skin more than any other heating mask I've tried. I honestly almost teared up because of the heat!

I rinsed off the mask after about 15 minutes with lukewarm water and then quickly switched to cold water. For a few minutes, my face still felt hot, but it soon cooled down. My skin did feel renewed, as if I'd gone to a spa.

This is a $24 spa-like treatment that you could do in your home. But, I wouldn't recommend using it too much because of the high heat sensation.

Olay Professional's Pro-X

When I think of the word "protocol" I think of things like official business, military instructions or medication directions. In other words serious business. Olay Professional obviously wants us to think that way about their new Pro-X anti-aging line because they're calling their starter kit a "starter protocol."

The kit consists of three products from the Pro-X line: Age Repair Lotion with SPF30, Eye Restoration Complex and Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. According to the accompanying literature, "Pro-X is clinically proven to re-signal skin to perform more like it did when it was younger by increasing surface turnover and repairing the moisture barrier." This is supposed to start happening by the end of 28 days of being on the "protocol."

I've been using a free kit I received from Total Beauty since the beginning of February. Has it worked? Well, I've been under a tremendous amount of economic stress since the beginning of the year. The skin on my face always hits rock bottom when I am stressed out. It was pretty much at rock bottom when I started using Pro-X and I must say that it has improved quite a bit, even while my stress has increased. So, if things don't improve for me, people will be able to say I have the clearest skin in the poorhouse.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall '09: John Galliano

If Anna Karenina had a pulse, she’d be wearing what John Galliano offered up on the Fall runway. His presentation was a wintry, theatrical parade of full-skirts, embroidered coats, and heels with pom-pom details. Although he primarily used a somber palette, pops of red and lapis blue appeared in the Russian nesting doll-reminiscent skirts and schmaltzy hats. The show headed to red carpet territory with a series of liquid silver dresses, including a few sheer showstoppers. I loved his defined point of view, but, aside from some serious Oscar potential, I’m not sure how his looks will translate to the average consumer. Below are some looks from his collection:

Paula Abdul’s Forever Your Girl Collection

So another celebrity has connected with HSN and this time it’s Paula Abdul, unveiling Forever Your Girl, a line of jewelry, accessories and handbags. She appeared on HSN a couple of weeks ago and sold out about 10 of her items, which is actually pretty good.

Her collection isn't too shabby, but I think some of the items are a bit pricey-- not quite diamonds, but more than you'd casually splurge.

I love the clutch (pictured top left) but not for $90. But people bought it, so to each her own. Don't get me wrong, she does have some inexpensive items, like these earrings (pictured right). They're chic and only $20. I love wearing drop earrings. They look best with casual outfits.

Even though times are tough (well, not for everyone) we have to give little gifts to ourselves from time to time. So if you want to go with the $90.00 clutch go ahead and knock yourself out. No one is judging you anyway.

Paula Abdul will return to HSN sometime in May.

Bobbi Brown's Latest Makeup Book

Iconic makeup artist Bobbi Brown released a new makeup book back in December called Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of it shortly before it was released but, until now, I haven't had a chance to post anything about it. Actually, I still don't have time. That's why I was so happy to receive an email today, which included this video:

This book is for everyone, from people who need a book called Makeup For Dummies to people who are ready to embark on a career as a makeup artist. Enjoy it.

Milan Fashion Week, Fall '09: Dolce & Gabbana

After Miuccia Prada's depressing carpet bag jackets, Dolce & Gabbbana gave me a much-needed jolt of excitement for Fall fashion. Did I love everything they produced? No. The Marilyn Monroe print that showed up on many dresses and skirts smacks of a Chinatown tote. But the Elsa Schiaparelli influence was pure genio. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took spring's strong-shouldered trend to new (vertical!) heights with Minnie Mouse look-a-like blazers. Surrealist touches, such as gloves made into scarves and bow clutches transformed into hats, jazzed up the more traditional tuxedo looks and peek-a-boo sheer corset dresses. I especially loved the pairing of contrasting prints, such as polkadots and leopard print.

On my wish list? The classic black trench, with the requisite puffy sleeves, that Anna Jagodzinska rocked as the show opener.

A Visit To DEX Studios

Last Friday I had the opportunity to visit DEX Studios, located in Manhattan. Models were there getting ready for the Stephen Burrows show, part of New York Fashion Week. I had the pleasure of speaking with John Henry (left, with a model) who is a makeup artist for DEX.

As he put the finishing touches on a model's face, he told me that it was “exciting to do the makeup for the Stephen Burrows show...he is a true legend.” The makeup up he used was DEX's own. Mr. Henry described the makeup line as “wonderful and fashionable,” and added that the line brings the "runway to the office." Because the makeup is mineral-based, it has natural and anti-aging properties. He explained that this is a plus because women won’t have to worry about skin irritation. The makeup can be bought online or in-studio.

DEX Studios is multi-functional. Besides being a makeup studio, it's a photography and progressive hair studio as well.

Emily is a recent graduate of Willamette University. She spent a year abroad that included studying the history of fashion and design in Florence, Italy, and she is currently an intern for a national fashion and style magazine.

Oscar Buzz-Worthy Trends

No one watching Sunday night's red carpet would have guessed we are in a recession. Perhaps because it feels like we skipped right over last year's Academy Awards (indeed, an Oscar ceremony sans Vanity Fair after-party is not much of a celebration at all), celebrities pulled out all the stops this time around. Accordingly, the traditional red-carpet LBD was noticeably missing. Angelina, in strapless Elie Saab, was one of the few stars who chose to wear the dark hue. The stars' opulent gowns ranged from Penelope Cruz's frothy, dreamy Balmain concoction to Freida Pinto's asymmetrical azule Galliano frock. Indeed, some critics have wondered aloud whether some attendees meant to dress for a royal wedding and landed on the wrong carpet.

This year's three most prevalent red carpet trends took their cues from the spring runways:

Trend 1: Metallic Gowns

Although many critics are saying otherwise, I thought Amy Adams was the fashion highlight of the evening. Yes, her Carolina Herrera gown had some unfortunate black piping, plus it matched the red carpet. But with her red hair and elegant 1950's bib necklace, the overall effect was stunning.

Kate Winslet Downplays Things & Comes Up A Winner

Kate Winslet has been nominated for an Oscar six times. She usually shows up on The Red Carpet in something more eye-catching than what she wore last night and, at the end of the night, she always walks away empty-handed. Last night she was more subdued, in a YSL one-shoulder dress. She walked away with the award for Best Actress.

Kate's makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey created a classic, natural look, using products from Lancome. I, for one, prefer a natural look over something heavier, so I applaud Jillian for her choices.

Of course, I also applaud Kate Winlet for finally taking home a statue. Congratulations to her and to all the winners.

Fresh's Oval Soaps

I scored an oval bar of soap from Fresh a while back and finally decided to try it last night.

This soap is huge! It's 8.8 oz, (about the size of a Chipotle burrito) and it kept slipping out of my hands. But it was soothing and it made my skin soft. It has a nourishing formula with a little shea butter in it. It's definitely great to have while taking a hot bath. The price isn't too bad ($14) but it should last a long time (Again, think Chipotle burrito.).

I tried the vanilla scent but I know I want to try the Waterlilly, Sugar and Fressia, too.

Lush's Coalface Cleanser

For many years I've been searching for the best facial cleanser. I have tried so many products that I've lost count. I finally found one that really cleans the dirt and oil from my face the best: Lush's Coalface Cleanser. For the past few months I had a bout with acne and now it's finally clearing up.

I always walked by the Lush stores without giving them much thought. I just had no interest in going in. But when my breakouts kept getting worse, no matter what product I used, I got fed up. I decided to try Lush, since they boast that their products are fresh and handmade.

When I went into the store, the salesperson was very helpful in determining which cleanser was best for my skin. I have combination-oily skin, so the perfect one for me was the Coalface. I wasn't sure about it, though, because the soap was a little expensive and it smelled kind of medicinal. I bought it anyway.

I felt a difference the first time I tried it. For the first time ever, my face felt CLEAN. Yes, it was a little dried out by the soap, but it felt so healthy. This black soap became my miracle worker.

At first I didn't like that I paid $12 for a small piece of this soap, but guess what: I still have it, almost 2 months later. So, it was a great investment. My only issue with Lush is that not all of their products are "organic"or "fresh" as they claim. This cleanser isn't exactly pure and has some chems in it, but I'm okay with that. It didn't break out my skin at all.

Even if you don't follow sports you must have heard the latest about Alex Rodriguez.

A-Rod hasn't told the country his side of the story yet. When the allegations broke over the wekeend, he wasn't even in the country, as a matter of fact. He was at this posh retreat in the Bahamas:

Bathing In The Woods With Space NK

Space NK is a UK store that's steadily growing in popularity in the US, especially with their new relationship with Bloomingdale's. The store specializes in niche brands, and sells everything from hair care and fragrance, to bath and body.

One product of theirs I really like is the Space NK Bathing In The Woods candle. I've had it for months, but just recently lit it up and I love it. It has a soft, powdery, floral scent that is really relaxing. It's the perfect way to take it easy at home (especially with the crappy weather here in the Northeastern US). Sip some hot chocolate or whatever is your pleasure and enjoy the fragrance.

The company claims the candle can burn for 500 hours. Why not put it to the test? I know I will.

The mark Candy Kisses Lip Gloss set has the cutest packaging I've seen for lip gloss. The set is very handy to travel with and they're just the thing for a low-maintenance touch of beauty for the lips.

They come in 3 flavors: White Truffle, Toffee Crunch and Tiramisu. So far, I've tried White Truffle and it's not too bad. It smooths on my lips easily and isn't sticky, although it doesn't have that "candy" smell as I thought it would. I'm looking forward to trying the Toffee Crunch.

The price isn't too bad either; $10.00 for a set of 3 is reasonable, and they'll last a long time, since you only need to dab on a little.

Did Michelle Obama Surprise Jason Wu?

So, Michelle Obama chose a Jason Wu design for her inaugural ball gown, and if you believe what was shown on CNN last night, Jason Wu didn't know about it until he watched their coverage of it.

Someone calling himself Jason Wu called CNN last night during the ball coverage and was put on the air to talk about the dress. This man said he had no idea Mrs Obama would be wearing the dress until he saw the pictures on CNN.

I guess that's possible. If they really wanted to keep things under wrap, what better way to do so than to keep even the designer himself in the dark?

As for the dress itself, it was originally a strapless gown but a strap was added in the interest of comfort. It's nothing special. In fact, I don't see it as an inaugural gown. To me it looks more like what a debutante would wear, not a first lady. So, no applause from me about the dress, but my applause to Michelle Obama for continuing to be a fashion risk taker.

The Innaugural Dress: Congratulations Isabel Toledo

Michelle Obama took her place in history today wearing an Isabel Toledo yellow shift and matching overcoat. She accessorized with a diamond brooch and diamond studs, green pumps and green gloves.

I love the neutral color and overall classic look of this outfit. The green shoes and gloves did better than match; they mixed well with the yellow suit.

This is definitely a vast improvement over what we saw on election night. Congratulations, Isabel Toledo and good choice, Michelle Obama.

Chargin Valley's Shampoo Bars

I like to have a variety of shampoo to use, preferably natural shampoos, but I also want them to be affordable. I felt like I was running out of options until a month ago when I was in searching for something on the internet and found Chagrin Valley Soap and Crafts Company. They sell natural shampoo bars, soap, and other products. I never considered using a shampoo bar. For some reason I snubbed them, thinking it's easier to use shampoo out of a bottle.

I went on their website and checked out all their products and became intrigued, especially since you don't have to buy a regular-sized bar (around $6). You can get a sample (a little over $2). They even encourage shoppers to get samples so they can try a variety and see which works best.

I opted to sample 3 bars. It was hard picking them because they all seemed great. I finally chose the Carrot and Honey Milk, Rosemary Mint (pictured above) and Herb Garden shampoo bars.

I received the products quickly and used a different one each week. It took a little getting used to the bars, but it wasn't rocket science. I didn't care for the Carrot and Honey Milk, but the Rosemary Mint and Herb Garden worked well on my hair. My hair did come out feeling clean, maybe a little too clean; it felt a bit rough afterwards, so I conditioned it longer than usual. But that didn't sway me away from the products. My hair did have to get used to them and it has over time. I love them actually. They're packed with natural ingredients; no chemicals at all.

A word of caution: Be careful of the suds getting into your eyes. They sting A LOT.

The Unique Scents of CB I Hate Perfume

A couple of months ago I found out about a quaint, perfume studio located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The name of the place, CB I Hate Perfume seemed like an unusual name to me, but then I realized the message the founder was trying to get out. Christopher Brosius makes his perfumes with blends of essential oils and water. There is no alcohol in them like most perfumes. So, even though he is technically selling perfume, in a sense, he's not.

When you walk in, plan on being there for at least a half and hour; you'll be busy sniffing all of the scents that are in stock. What stands out most about these fragrances is how the name matched the scent. For example, Burning Leaves actually smelled like burning leaves. Most would think, who wants to smell like that? But trust me, it would smell great on a guy.

Some of my other favorites were I Am A Dandelion (pictured top left), Tea of Rose, Winter 1972 and In The Library. Oddly enough, In The Library smelled exactly like that. It's like he took his memories and bottle them up. But the scent I fell in love with was Strawberry Shortcake. I had to buy it or eat it, and since I couldn't do the latter, I bought it. Once you make your selections, the kind staff will fill up a fresh bottle and wrap it up right in front of you.

If you're in the NYC area, take a trip and see (or smell) for yourself. Don't worry, if you're long distance, you can buy online.

I'm a dork for the holidays and I love decorations and window displays, snow (light snow), hot chocolate and especially Christmas trees. But I'm not putting up a tree this year because I'm going away. My alternative? I bought Slatkin & Co.'s Perfect Christmas Reed Diffusers from Bath & Body Works.

The company has a variety of scents and now my living room smells like a Christmas tree, I absolutely love it. These diffusers works really well and it doesn't take that long for the scent to waft through your home. So far I've had them for a week and the scent is supposed to last for a month. I hope it lasts so much longer.

The price isn't bad either-$19.50-and the scents are Winter, Spice and Frosted Cranberry. This would make a great gift-- for yourself.

Clear My Head 2Go

I have a new addiction. Clear My Head 2Go is my drug of choice. A while ago I felt like I was coming down with a cold (which wasn't good since I was going of town in a few hours) and my boss gave me this roll-on oil. She told me to try it and so I did. All I did was roll the tube underneath my eye area. Then I prayed that it would work so I'd feel well enough for the trip.

Of course it stung my eyes for a few moments, but after about 10-15 minutes I noticed a difference. Slowly, I started to feel better and actually felt renewed. This roll-on only contains jojoba and essential oils and its intended use is for colds, flu and allergies, but I can't help but sniff it all the time. It's aroma-therapeutic and I always feel refreshed afterwards.

Clear My Head opens sinuses and kills airborne bacterial and viral pathogens. In addition to the roll-on, it also comes in a jar, soap and in bath salts. I'm so tempted to try the bath salts to have an at-home spa experience!

There are so many reasons to have a party―whether it’s for a housewarming, birthday, retirement, etc.―and now that the holiday season has officially arrived, there'll be plenty of parties going on. I had butternut squash soup, mashed potatoes and turkey pot pie. It may sound ordinary, but the soup was served in a little pumpkin and the mashed potatoes were stuffed in a pear-shaped, breading. I thought it was unique but more importantly, delicious! They have easy-to-follow recipes, so you could do this at home and impress your guests. The décor amazed me because it looked so complicated, but once the experts broke the process down into simple steps, I saw that it's easy to recreate and easy on the wallet too.

Garnier Nutritioniste De-Puffs Your Eyes

I never thought I would have an issue with dark bags underneath my eyes, but little sleep and stress sure proved me wrong. A few weeks ago I took a good look in the mirror and noticed that the area underneath my eyes was considerably darker. Oh no, not me!

Then I remembered that I'd received Garnier Nutritioniste Anti-Puff Eye Roller some weeks ago when I went to an event so, I decided this was the perfect time to try it.

It contains caffeine and vitamin B5, which is supposed to increase circulation-resulting in decongesting puffiness and diminishing dark circles. The vitamin b5 is supposed to refresh and hydrate the eye area. It's easy to use; just roll it underneath the eye 2 times (I did it 3 times) and smooth evenly. Do this morning and evening.

Did it work?

Well, nothing works overnight. After about 2 weeks, I noticed a change. My eyes were back to normal, although I must say that me getting my beauty rest and controlling my stress (more relaxing, hot baths, more breaks) was a big help. I honestly don't think this would've worked on its own. You be the judge.

Michelle Obama: A Few Words About The Dress

We here in America took a bold step forward this week and I cannot wait to see what happens in the year ahead. I'm also curious to see what kind of style Michelle Obama has. If Election Night was any indication, she's not going to be much fun to look at.

She wore a Narciso Rodriguez dress (photos above) that made her hips look way too wide. I'm not sure what she saw in this dress, as it doesn't even look that great in the runway photo. I would have preferred to see her in a brightly colored tailored suit, a la Jackie Kennedy. But, she's not paying me to be her stylist or personal designer. I'd be surprised if she were paying anyone to act in either of those roles. It's not 1960 and Michelle Obama is not Jackie Kennedy. She can wear anything she wants and the world can like it or not like it. Do your thing, sis!

Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer

The winter is here too soon! It's not even Halloween yet! What gives? Anyway, cooler temps mean drier skin, especially on face. The other day while at work, I noticed how dry my face gets when I don't follow-up with a moisturizer. Luckily, a co-worker had something on hand.

She gave me Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer. At first I was about to turn it way because I thought, I'm too young to use something with "age defense" in the title." But then I realized it may not be too early to start defending my skin against signs of aging. So caved in and tried it.

It's very rich, so I only used a little and I was surprised at how well it worked. It didn't feel like it clogged my pores or anything. And of course, it hydrated my skin.

So if you're in your mid 20s like me and scoff at the idea of using anti-aging products now, take a minute to think it through. Not only does pollution contribute to speeding the aging process, but stress is a big factor too. I know I'm always stressed, so I need something like this.

Accessories of the Avenue

Avenue is a retailer for the curvy woman and, in addition to clothing, they have plenty of accessories and shoes to accentuate any outfit. Apparently patent leather and metallic are the "it" trends of the season and Avenue has your back.

There's plenty of cute jewelry to choose from and it's quite affordable. The necklace and earring set pictured above is only $10.50. I have a weakness for handbags and clutches; you can never have too many of them to choose from. One that stands out for me is the Croco-Embossed Patent Clutch (pictured right).

But shoes are sometimes the best feature to an outfit and I love these pumps! To me, they're very sexy and classy. They're only $45 and worth every penny.

Bottom line is, it's hard to completely give up shopping for the sake of this uncertain economy, but it's nice to know where to buy great items without going for broke.

Sephora's Whipped Body Butter

Another freebie I scored from an event I went to a few weeks ago was Sephora Whipped Body Butter. I always try to be cautious when it comes to some body butters; some can be too heavy on the skin and too heavy on the olfactory senses. I was pleasantly surprised that this one isn't like that.

The first thing I noticed was that it absorbed quickly. I love it when a cream can do that and I don't have to spend time trying to make it disappear. The second thing was the scent. It didn't knock me out; it had a light aroma.

Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment

Yes, I know Ojon Hair Products have been around for a while now. Yes, I've heard all the buzz about them but I just didn't have a desire to try them. Then, last week I scored a free sample. I received the Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment, which is supposed to be the company's signature product. As you might know, the name Ojon comes from the usage of the rare oil of the Ojon tree. The oil is supposed to be a super moisturizer for hair. It is!

Just a reminder...I have tightly coiled hair so, it tends to dry easily. I applied the treatment and let it stay on for 20 minutes or so. Afterward, I shampooed it out and carried on with my usual hair regimen. When my hair dried, I noticed a difference right away.

I'm really happy I listened to other Ojon users and only used a little product. Too much can weigh your hair down. This is ideal for any hair type with dry hair or damaged hair. Seal Up That Crack!

There seems to be an epidemic spreading among young women these days who wear low-rise jeans. It appears to be running rampant and there's no cure in sight. I don't have to tell you what it is. I'm sure you know. It's disgusting and I just wish it would stop.

Does anyone who wears low-rise jeans actually know that her butt crack is showing? Apparently not. Apparently low-rise jeans are so tight that they do a tremendous job of numbing the lower body, so much so that a young woman who wears them has no idea that her business is being revealed for all the world to see.

This is very sad. These women need help. They need to be brought back to the Land Of Feeling: being able to feel that their cracks are showing and having respect for the feelings of others who've been forced to look at them. Let's help set these women straight. The next time you see a woman whose crack is showing, walk right up to her, look her in the face and say, "Seal up that crack!" She'll thank you for it and the world will surely be a better place.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat: Suki Pure Sensitive Cleansing Bar Soap

At an event I attended a couple of weeks ago, I was lucky to leave with a gift bag filled with beauty goodies. One that I'm blessed to have right now is Suki Pure's Sensitive Cleaning Bar Soap. Suki products are made from 100% organic ingredients (some are even vegan) and without all that extra crap in them. The key ingredients in the soap I used are lemongrass extract and shea butter. It's also filled with Vitamin E, ginger and pure vegetable oils. Although I feel like I'm showering with Lemon Head Candy, I also feel invigorated. I can't get enough of it.

The lemon scent takes me from groggy to a "ready, set, go!" state of mind. The bar also soothes my skin too. But I'm sad to see my bar of soap being whittled down to next to nothing. It's almost time for a new one. There's something about the combo of the hot shower and the lemon-esque soap that's slowly making that time my favorite part of the day.

Yes, the economic times are scary right now, but there are still some things worth spending money on, like bags for instance. You could never have too many bags to choose from. I keep adding to my collection because I like to switch it up, as many women love to do. Here are a couple of more bags you might want to check out.

IMAN Global Chic is launching two new handbags on September 27th. The Hollywood Envelope Clutch (pictured above) is for those who want to bring a splash of personality to their business outfit. It's great to wear to work, a business dinner, seminar, or whatever you do because it can store those important folders and even a laptop. The laptop may fit, although I'm not too sure about that. But if it truly does, then that's makes it even better!

Full Frontal Fashion

A friend of mine always gushes about Full Frontal Fashion so, this past week I checked it out. In case you didn't know it's a channel and a website with 24 hour access to fashion! More importantly, it has complete coverage on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for Spring 2009. So if you missed anything this week, this is how you can get caught up. In addition to the shows, there are backstage interviews with designers, hair stylists, makeup artists, celebrities, and so on. You can watch videos online and even rate them. Interviews, beauty buzz, and host bios are also found on the website.

I didn't get a chance to watch much of the channel this week-I've been very busy-but I did watch Patricia Field, Abaete and Tracy Reese the other day. I'm sorry I didn't get to attend Patricia Field's show in person; it seemed like a party. One of the Full Frontal hosts, Judy Licht ,was pretty funny. I loved how she applauded Patricia Field for not having the "same bored-looking, rail-thin models" in her show.

I loved Tracy Reese's show too. Although the music almost lulled me to sleep-it sounded like a fairy composed the music, though it went with her theme of nature-I loved her clothing and especially the trench (pictured left). That trench is sick!

When I get a chance, I will check out the other shows on Full Frontal Fashion, both on the web and on cable. I like doing both, the web to rate a show and watching on TV to hear the commentary of the hosts. Check your local cable listings to find out when and where you can watch, too.

New York Fashion Week Spring 09: Backstage At Baby Phat, Pt 1

Just got home from my trip backstage at the Baby Phat Show. Wow! Talk about chaos. The backstage area was this tiny little space off-stage that was probably no bigger than a nice-sized studio apartment. About two-thirds of it was reserved for the outfits and the people who'd be dressing the models. The remaining third was for the hair stylists and makeup artists. This hair and makeup area couldn't have been more than six-feet wide and about 30 feet long.

I'll have more about this foray backstage in the coming days, including details on the makeup used (MAC's) and the hair (Linea Pro). Until then, enjoy some photos I took with the camera on my new Blackberry. They're a little grainy but interesting nonetheless:

New York Fashion Week Spring 2009: Rodarte

I'm really fascinated with the Mulleavy sisters, the two designers behind the Rodarte line. Here are two woman who, when you look at them, appear to be the furthest things from fashionistas. They're artistic intellectuals who just happen to be the creative minds behind one of the most succesful high fashion lines out there these days. They showed their Spring 09 Collection here in New York on Tuesday, off-site, away from the mania of the Tents at Bryant Park, at the Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea. Of all the pieces in this collection, this stunning dress is my absolute favorite:

I read an article by Tierney Gearon in the New York Times Magazine about these ladies in which they described their thought process in creating this new collection:

"We'd been thinking about an idea of the future and what gets left behind," Laura says, citing a free-range list of inspirations: earth art of the 1960s and '70s and Robert Smithson's displaced mirrors reflecting and fracturing the natural world; Nancy Holt's "Sun Tunnels," four industrial concrete tubes punctured with holes in the patterns of constellations, in a remote Utah field; and the 2001 cult film "Donnie Darko."

New York Fashion Week Spring 09: Gottex

Last night it appeared that I would be 0 for 3 in attempts to get into shows this Fashion Week. I had standing room passes for the Ports 1961 and Gottex shows. Unlike what happened during my Venexiana experience, I arrived on time for the first show (Ports) and stood in line with the other standees waiting to get in. Unfortunately, however, the Ports people decided not to let any of us in! We all had to watch the show on the monitor. I was livid, to say the least.

Thanks to Gottex, my night was not a total loss. The Gottex people did let the standees in and I was able to see my first show of the week. In case you didn't know, Gottex is a swimwear line. The designer for the line is Gideon Oberson. Here's a slideshow of selected pieces:

This was a fun show to watch in person. I was able to see everything really well, even though I was standing in the back. The music was cool, too, especially a jazzed-up version of the disco anthem "I Will Survive." As for the swimsuits themselves, I wasn't blown away. My guess is that, if I were more of a beach/pool/water person I'd feel otherwise. Oh, well.

New York Fashion Week Spring 09: Alexander Wang's Hairy Situation

Alexander Wang's new collection for Spring 2009 is all about street wear and athletics. His lead hairstylist, Eugene Souleiman, used Aveda products to create styles that he says shows a girl "who’s just left the gym and has pulled her hair back into a “sweaty,” textured, undone half-pony. The bottom is loose and the texture is dry." Here are a few examples of what he came up with:

To achieve these looks Eugene used Aveda's Volumizing Tonic, Pure Abundance Hair Potion and Air Control Hair Spray. Good choices. Aveda's all about the environment and his use of Aveda shows that Alexander Wang has made a real effort to "green" up his show this season. His comments show that effort: “It feels good to contribute to such an important cause—and I thank Aveda for their help and guidance. The environment is such an important concern and it can sometimes feel overwhelming so it’s great to remember that every bit helps.”

As for the looks themselves, I'm not impressed. Gym hair as a look? I don't think so. Why would anyone intentionally look like they just left the gym? Leave it at the gym.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2009: Venexiana, Etc.

Today was Day One of Fashion Week and it ended up being a very hectic and disappointing one for me. I had two events on my schedule today: a dinner party given by Total Beauty down in the West Village and, afterward, the Venexiana Show in The Tents at Bryant Park.

Before the party, I stopped by Bryant Park to pick up my press credentials. This is the first Fashion Week that I actually have credentials for, and to be honest, picking up those credentials was a bit intimidating. I like to think of myself as a member of the media, and perhaps, after I've done this blogging thing for a few more years, I really will feel like one. But today I only wandered around Bryant Park feeling like a fish out of water.

Next, I was off to the Total Beauty event, downtown at a trendy place called Socialista. The good people at Total Beauty arranged to have all of us who are members receive a sneak peak at some new products by Bobbi Brown. We were all sworn to secrecy so, I can't tell you anything about the products right now. All I can say is that they're great! I'll be able to spill the beans in the coming months so, stay tuned!

The dinner was a long, relaxing affair which, unfortunately, overlapped into the time I was supposed to be on the subway heading back to The Tents to see the Venexiana Show. I ended up scarfing down my main course and leaving without hearing any of the presentations by the Bobbi Brown people. I was really upset about having to do this, but not nearly as upset as I was when I got to Bryant Park and couldn't get into the show, even though I had an invite! I didn't have a seat; I was on the standing room list, and by the time I arrived, there were too many people already standing in the room. I couldn't get in.

So, I was reduced to standing outside in the outer area of the tent and watching the show on a monitor, along with about a dozen other people who'd arrived too late:

So the Venexiana publicists sent out too many invites. Why? I haven't been this disappointed in a long time. The day wasn't a total loss, however. This afternoon WNBC.com put up a slideshow featuring NY area fashion bloggers, and one of them was little old me! I feel truly honored to be featured along side all of these creative and intelligent women and men. Check out the slideshow here.

Bye-Bye Body Aches

When we're always on the go we sometimes don't take the time outs that our bodies need. That's why I like to take a bath once in while to slow down and relax. I met a woman named Verneda White at an event last week. She was wearing a shirt like the one above, but in a different color. The shirt is part of her new clothing line, Human Intonation, which officially launched early last month. It's a line of graphic tees for men and women.

Verneda uses her company to raise social awareness, which is great! Fifteen percent of the proceeds of each sale go to their non-profit organizations: Hands on New Orleans, Darfur Peace, and Development Org. Their goal is to fund the rebuilding of Hurricane Katrina devastated areas, improve education in Darfur and Sudan and promote HIV/AIDS prevention and education. I don't wear makeup often, but when I do apply eye shadow from time to time, it's hard to find the right makeup remover. Some are either too harsh on my skin or barely remove the minimal makeup I'm wearing. But Clinique's Take The Day Off makeup remover is perfect for anyone.

I went to a press event and had the pleasure to experience Sparty!- a company that combines the spa experience with parties. The first thing I did was get a massage. It felt great, too. It's a fantastic way to unwind for a party. Hors d'oeuvres, drinks and manicures were on hand too. Curly and Frizz Free

I wear a curly afro, so I try to use products that contain more natural ingredients than chemicals-I don't want damaged hair! I always seek new products that fit that bill so I can have a variety to choose from. Last week, I tried Aveda's Be Curly styling product.

This product is best for curly and wavy hair, but surprisingly, it works well on African-American hair as well. The key ingredients are aloe, wheat protein, and marshmallow root. I had great results. I applied this after I washed my hair. To achieve the curly look, I coiled my hair while it was damp. After my hair dried, I took the coils out and had curls that were more defined than usual. I was free of frizz all day; I love this stuff! For anyone with curly hair issues, this product will be your friend. Be curly!

A Post-Shower Must-Do

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about using Olay's Ultra Moisture In-Shower Body Lotion. I didn't think it would be too effective, but I was wrong. I applied it onto wet skin, let it sit for a few seconds, and then rinsed it off as directed. When I dried off, my skin was in fact smoother as Olay claimed it would be. So, now I was supposed to be able to go through the day without needing traditional body lotion.

I wasn't fully convinced. I was afraid to not put on lotion, but I was brave and went on about my day. Yes, I obsessed over the state of my skin, but after checking myself for the 10th time, I realized this product truly works. So if you want to save time when getting ready, why not try this product and enjoy smooth skin.

Zoya Minicure Set

I received the Zoya Minicure Set when I attended a recent press event. I love painting my nails, so I didn't waste time trying this out. I gave myself a manicure and pedicure and the results amazed me! My friends gave me rave reviews about the look, especially when I told them I didn't get them done at a nail salon. Many of them thought my nails were professionally done because of the glossy look. Here are the five essential elements in the set:

1) Remove- Nail polish remover that also cleans and strengthens the nail.

2) Anchor- Base coat that adheres the nail color.

3) Color- Zoya has over 300 colors to choose from-mine was a fiery red.

4) Armor- Topcoat and UV protector.

Soothing, Cooling, and Refreshing Lips

Although I knew of Burt's Bees products for a long time, I didn't try them until recently. I tested the Beeswax Lip Balm and immediately felt a change. There's a hint of peppermint in the product so, my lips felt cool. More importantly, my lips were moisturized and that refreshing feeling lasted a long time. No wonder it was voted one of the best skin care products by Women's Health Magazine.

I like this product because it doesn't just sit on top of my skin, it penetrates my lips. I am happy to find another lip balm that'll last all day. Burts Bees' products are natural and the packaging is mostly made up of recycled materials. These products can be found in any drugstore or online.

Shopping is one of the best things to do in NYC. If you're in the area or plan to visit, check out S.O.S. Sample Sales. This is especially for those whole love brand name clothing but don't always have the budget to purchase them. S.O.S. sell a lot of designer clothing at a lower price. Some of the designers include Diesel, BCBG, Kenneth Cole, Burberry, as well as many others. It's not just for the ladies, either. They sell men's clothing too.

Go to their website to view their current sale. However, you cannot shop online, only in-store. Luckily, they're open daily from 11a.m.-7p.m. I personally don't go to many sample sales, but I think I'll check this one out and see what they have.

No More Wire Hangers!

I'd never heard of Huggable Hangers by Joy Mangano until I went to a press preview event a while back. I immediately like them when I saw them. The thin design, velvet covering, and assortment of colors won me over. No, these are not your typical wire or bulky plastic hangers.

Although thin, the hangers are strong enough to hold any type of fabric and won't bend the way wire hangers do. These hangers enable you to have more closet space and will give your closet a neat appearance. Hooks are also available which would provide even more space.

I was overjoyed when I saw two Huggable Hangers in my gift bag. I tested them as soon as I got home. I use thick plastic hangers, so when I switched a couple with the Huggable's I did see a noticeable difference in space!

Santa Maria Novella Almond Soap

I'm more of a bar soap fan than a body wash fan, and I hear that bar soaps are better for the environment than body washes are. Last year I blogged about a pomegranate bar soap I tried, made by Italian company Santa Maria Novella (SMN). I've since made it one of the staples in the large collection of products in my shower caddies. Recently I tried another SMN soap, Sapone Alla Mandorla.

Sapone Alla Mandorla is almond soap and it smells wonderful. I've tried other almond soaps and they're either too overpowering or have virtually no almond scent at all. It is made with 100% almond oil, triple milled and hand pressed using 19th century equipment. You can't say anything like that about a body wash.

Don't get me wrong. I still use body washes, but when I'm in the mood for a luxurious treat, I prefer a lovely smelling triple milled soap like the ones made by SMN.

A Sweet, Day Fragrance

The other day I talked about Jo Malone’s Dark Amber and now I want to mention its counterpart-Lotus Blossom and Water Lilly, the fragrance to wear during the day. I like the light floral scent. It has a flirty essence too, but it's not as sensual as the Dark Amber. It’s still great to wear, whether to work, on a day trip or just to smell nice while staying home all day in your pj’s.

I think it's good to have to both on hand, especially since you could mix the fragrances together. A Jo Malone rep instructed me to put on the Dark Amber first, since it’s heavier, and then apply the Lotus Blossom. The result gave an interesting scent that I couldn't pinpoint, but loved anyway. Why not give it a try?

Philosophy's Microdelivery Pads

A blogger friend of mine attended a Philosophy event a few months ago and received a huge gift bag from them. Philosophy had been very generous that day and my friend told me that she couldn't possibly get through everything. I took a couple of items off her hands. One of them was the Microdelivery Multi-Use Peel Pads.

For those of you old enough to remember, this product is very much reminiscent of Stridex Medicated Pads. It's a jar of pads soaked with product, just like Stridex, except these aren't for teenagers with acne problems. Microdelivery Multi-Use Peel Pads are a skin-smoothing exfoliant, but unlike other exfoliants, the pads are gentle enough to use every single day. Also, whereas Stridex was only for acne-filled faces, these pads can be used on elbows, knees or anywhere else on the body that needs smoothing.

I've been using them for a few months now and I cannot be without them now. My face always looks healthy, polished, smooth and, dare I say, younger-looking. I definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a product that will give them those results.

I tried Jo Malone's Dark Amber cologne a few months back at Sniffapalooza. The rep explained to me that it's their evening fragrance and I could smell why. It's part of their Kohdo Wood Collection, and it has a unique smell. They describe the scent as a "sensual and calming blend that encourages a sense of tranquility." There is a dark essence to it, but it's not too powerful, as if you'd smell like you bathed in it.

To me, this fragrance is more flirty than any other with a floral scent. I love floral scents, but it's good to switch it up sometimes. Dark Amber complements an exciting evening out, and I am sure people will notice it. I know it will be perfect for the awards ceremony I'm going to this week! The Cure For Dry, Cracked Feet

Whenever I have my feet exposed, I am always worried about two things: which color nail polish to wear and are my feet ashy? I don't want to be one of those people with dry, cracked feet, because it's unappealing. And believe me, people will notice. So throughout the day, I used to obsess over my feet, making sure to continually reapply lotion. Well, not anymore!

At the press preview I went to a couple of weeks ago, I received Boot's Foot Butter and now it's my new best friend. This creme contains plant extracts that Boot's claims hydrate the skin for 24 hours and believe me, they do! There was no need to reapply. It's refreshing to not think about the appearance of my feet all day.

It's unbelievably affordable too-it's only $7.99! It's a little greasy though, so a little goes a long way. Give it a try!

IMAN's Global Chic Sandals

I recently attended a press preview of holiday and signature collections and fell for IMAN's Global Chic sandals. I notice this style of sandal on pretty much every one's feet nowadays and I can see why. They are perfect for those who want an elegant, yet simple look without burning a hole in their pockets. I think the sandals are right for both a casual day or classy night out. Even though these are garnished with a lot of gold, they only cost $39!

These sandals and other items are sold exclusively on HSN, so you can buy them online. But there's no shame in watching HSN either. On Saturday, July 12th, IMAN will appear on HSN, unveiling new bags and accessories, so check your local listings to see what time to tune in!

She's Got The Look, And It's Pretty Good

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a private screening of the TV Land reality series She's Got The Look.

If you haven't seen it, the show is a modeling competition for women ages 35 and older. In each episode, the contestants have challenges to answer to. Someone gets eliminated from the "board" each week until a winner is declared. That woman gets a Wilhelmenia modeling contract and a photo spread in Self Magazine.

My friend Alison and I went to the screening and we were both rivetted by the episode. Everyone in attendance was taken on the rollercoaster ride of emotions that each contestant exhibited and we all had strong feelings about the two women who were eliminated in that episode.

The best thing about the evening, however, was probably the appearance of one of the show's judges: Robert Verdi! Robert was so nice to everyone there and even took the time to chat with Alison and I before we left. (We also received gift bags filled with products from Aveeno, who sponsored the event.)

The Ultimate Girl's Night Out

There's nothing like hanging out with your best gal pals, but imagine taking that experience to a higher level. You can do just that with Shecky's Girl's Night Out. This event is in NYC from June 23rd-June 27th, from 5-10pm. It's a great way to unwind from a long day. It's like fusing happy hour with shopping. Picture sipping on complimentary cocktails while sampling products, beauty services, getting in on unbelievable sales from emerging designers, and fun giveaways. I am not making this up!

You and your friends would get spectacular goodie bags too, but unfortunately, the Deluxe Goodie Bag tickets are sold out. I think it's still worth it to go, goodie bags or not.
